All in all, 53,300 children or young people in Germany were placed in residential care or in another form of supported housing by youth welfare offices in 2016. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, the construction of a total of 256,800 dwellings was permitted in Germany from January – September 2017. Compared with the corresponding period of 2016 this is a decrease of 7.0% or 19,500 dwellings.
